The 2008 Election

The youth had a major impact on the 2008 election. Because of technology youth were able to get more involved in politics. Younger people were a lot more interested in voicing their opinion in this election. Saturday Night Live also had a great impact on voters. 59% of people who watched SNL said that it convinced them to vote for Obama (onthehillblog). Because of technology there was a lot of ways that people could hear about the election. Things such as blogs, videos, newsletters, and a thing called Quattro wireless, which Obama used to encourage people to get out to vote early, are all examples of new things that made the public more aware of what was going on. Most of the youth voted for Obama. There could be a lot of reasons for this. One might be because of his education plan. Another could be because he is young. It alos seemed that Obama was the one who was telling everyone to get out and vote, regardless of who they were voting for. It seemed like he wanted the results of the election to make the majority of Americans happy, instead of just wanting to win. I alos think that this election had a major impact on America's global perspective. A lot of people are glad because the US voted for an African American president. African nations are very proud about this. They are also excited because Obama is more willing to open up with other countries. He wants to help Iraq get the troops out, open up trade with Cuba, and do other things to help the global community. Other countries are excited to see how things are going to go with Obama and are happy that Bush will no longer be president (FT).
The blog that I have been following is the concstitutional party blog. Those supporting this party were not surprised that they could not win the presidency. They are proud that they were able to get on the ticket and of all of the support that they had during this election. Apparently it was a higher turnout of voters, for them, this election. Hopefully Obama will have the credentials to be a good president, even though they did not think that he would.
African Americans are extremely excited and overjoyed that American voted for their first African American president. The election made history because of this. People fighting for Civil Rights had a major victory this November. One video I read said that African American slaves built most of the White House and now an African American family is living in it! It is amazing to know that our country is changing and going in the right direction for equality between races.
